About Me

Hello, I'm so glad you stopped by my blog,
Here you will find some information about me!

How I got Started Blogging

I started this journey in July 2011. I was at a meeting with a parent who wanted to send her child to a Montessori school. I felt her pain as she explained how her child learned best and how our classrooms just weren't the right fit. I decided to look into the Montessori concept and see what I could do to change up my room a bit and hopefully help this student be successful.

I found a wonderful blog with tons of Montessori ideas and freebies. From there I found a whole world of teaching blogs with amazing ideas and inspiration. I could not believe the goldmine I had stumbled upon. I had kept Jessica Meechum's website and Angela Watson's Cornerstone page in my bookmarks and relied on them a lot. I had thought a lot about creating my own page several times, however it seemed overwhelming. Now here were hundreds of teachers sharing ideas in a whole new way. A way I could do, blogging!!!

After a couple of months reading several blogs I set out on my own adventure and The Resourceful room was born! I'm glad you found me and I hope something I have shared here will inspire you as much as others have inspired me!!

My Family

I married my wonderful husband in May of 1996, in May of 1997 we welcomed our first child (a boy) into our lives. He was followed by our second (a girl) in August of 1998. The next few years were a whirlwind of diapers, bottles, teething, walking, talking, learning, growing fun!! Here is my family today...

I loved being a stay at home mom and would not change that time spent with my kids for anything. When my children went to school for the first time I wanted to be very involved. They went to a small charter school and there were plenty of opportunities for me to volunteer. I loved being in the classroom and working with children. I was so inspired by my children's kindergarten teacher who was amazing and let me work in her classroom all the time that I knew I wanted to be and educator!! So In 2003 I decided I would go back a to school.

In April 2008 I graduated from the Special Education Program at Western Michigan University and was named the Presidential Scholar of the department. I was hired by the district I attended as a child right after graduating and started teaching in a K-5 resource room in August of the same year. In 2011 because our district had to make budget cuts and eliminate positions I was reassigned to teach K-12 special education. It's was an exciting learning experience and I have found great things about each grade level that I love.

In 2012 we decided to make a move for our family that lead us to Northern Indiana. I began working in Elkhart as a upper elementary resource room teacher!  Two years later I decided to venture into the general education classroom and began teaching 2nd grade at a christian school. I love everything about it and look forward to many more years in this position.

I hope you find this blog useful, thanks again for stopping by!

Where did you get the paper fans on your shopping trip? I am looking for the same things very cheap for my table numbers to hang from and cannot find them anywhere.

Your blog is awesome!! I printed the binder pages for the red/black site and my printer missed the standards page. I cannot seem to find the red/black set again. Can you help? Thank you again for your blog, it has inspired me!!

  9. Amy,
I stumbled across your blog last night from Pinterest. It is amazing. I'm sure I will stop by often during the school year to see what you are working on. I also want to thank you for sharing all of the items you have created. They will look great in my classroom.

I have downloaded items from your red and black set. I really hate to ask considering you have allowed us to download for free, but was wondering if you will be adding the transportation and substitue items for the binder pages. Also, would it be possible for you to add pictures to the red and black schedule cards like you have on your pink cards? I teach kindergarten and they are not able to read at the beginning of the year so the picture cues would be a big help. If not, could you e-mail me how you created the cards for your classroom so I can give it a try? My e-mail is emellendorf@kingslocal.net.

Hope you have a GREAT first day on Monday!

    Thanks again,
    Elicia :D
