    We celebrated reading this week with our Dr. Seuss Day! We also have take-home book bags, do author studies, word bags where the student gets more words once they've mastered their current list, and get bookmarks, books or certificates for great reading! We also do a read-a-thon in February!

    Well, I tell my kiddos that we celebrate reading every day in our classroom just be being able to do it. BUT....at the end of each "unit" we have a reading celebration. They vary from a shoeless workshop to our Brown Bag Book Club celebration we just had Friday...I just blogged about it. LOVE to celebrate reading and readers!

    I am in the computer lab but I am also in Title Reading, my room is all based on Reading....Seuss week is HUGE ...We also are the ones in charge of AR...a student asked the other day if I was going to ever stop putting up things about Reading...my reply was ummmmm ....no!

    At the end of every reading unit, the students vote on their favorite books that I used in the mini-lessons and we read the top 1, then create a chart of things about it related to the unit (example, after a unit on characters, we list character attributes) to show what we've learned, then we have a special treat and they get to share a favorite book with their reading partner. We call it a reading celebration! (At the beginning of the year, students get ballot slips to choose from with book names already listed. By now, they have to write the title themselves on the ballot.) Lalamaus at gmail dot com

    This year for reading month, each classroom in my school is doing an author or genre study. My room is doing fairy tales!

    We celebrate reading every single day in my classroom! My students all read their writings to the class using the easi-speak microphone if they want to. I don't make them, although I do try to encourage the students. My students all are so eager to read and they have learned so much since the beginning of the year. I use the Pizza Hut reading program to award them with certificates at the end of the month if they have met their goal-they all do this because I wanted them all to feel successful! Their parents can't believe how much they have grown in their learning-frankly, I had no doubt! LOL, they love to hear Junie B. Jones every day after lunch so this is a real treat!

    I just pinned your new pencil sharpener because I've been thinking about it ever since I read your post! I am worried the plastic covered pencils are ruining my fancy exacto sharpener and they aren't even getting sharpened properly! I think it's time to purchase this new sharpener!

    We celebrated reading this week by having the students write down each book they read and then enter it on a Seuss Hat. We hang all of the Seuss Hats in the hallway. My students rocked this activity!
