We have Character Inside and Out!

We've been working on Character traits! Here's how we're doing it......

First we discussed Character Traits using this wonderful unit from One Extra Degree. I love the way she introduced appearance as "outside" traits and character traits as "inside" traits!
We read one of my favorite Thanksgiving books A Plump and Perky Turkey and wrote down traits of Pete on sticky notes! We discussed which traits were "inside" traits and which were outside and wrote them in the poster with a dry erase marker!
Then we read The Littlest Pilgrim and wrote down her traits on the anchor chart! Again we sorted them into outside and inside traits (This lesson was inspired by this post at First Grade Parade)!

I created this Cut Out of Mini for the kids to write their traits in, on the outside they colored her then wrote the outside traits, inside they wrote the character traits!
Here's the template if anyone wants it! Nothing to fancy, I'm not a great artist, but it turned out pretty cute once the kids had them decorated!

Then we used this simple body template to create a poster of our own character traits, inside the body they wrote their inside traits, on or around the outside the appearance or outside traits are written.

Don't they look so cute out in the hall!

Finally we used this Venn Diagram I whipped up to compare ourselves to Mini the "Littlest Pilgrim"

Stay tuned for some ideas on inferenceing coming soon! I am trying my best to catch up but it may be Thanksgiving before I get there! Hope everyone else is having a good week - and don't forget I'm having a linky party. I really need some people to link up!!! Come on - tell me who your favorite teachers are!! Check out the details HERE!
